Welcome

Welcome!

Welcome to the Parish of All Saints South Hobart, within the Anglican Diocese of Tasmania.

About the Parish of All Saints, South Hobart

The members of our Parish community come from many parts of Greater Hobart. We have a high level of involvement in the daily life of the Parish. People participate in the liturgy as servers, readers, welcomers; others volunteer (and gain valuable work-place skills) in our boutique Op-Shop, The Jesse Tree, or as gardeners, Parish Council members, brass-polishers, working on our monthly market, or helping in the many and varied jobs that help make the Parish lively.

The Parish Mission is to be “A vibrant Anglo-Catholic community, welcoming and serving others through worship and outreach.”

What is Anglo-Catholicism?

Our parish worship continues the tradition of Anglican worship in the Catholic Tradition.

Anglo-Catholicism emphasizes the continuity between the Anglican Church and the historic Catholic Church, both in theology and practice. We, as Anglo-Catholics, strive to preserve and promote sacramental theology, liturgical practices, wearing of vestments and ritual elements such as the use of incense at our most solemn services. The sacraments, particularly the Eucharist, are central to the way we worship, and we maintain a strong devotion to the Virgin Mary and the saints.

At the same time we are a Church IN the world, and we place a strong emphasis on issues of social justice, equality and inclusion.

Our two Churches – All Saints, and St Raphael’s

The Parish was established in 1858 and the beautiful, intimate, neo-Gothic Church of All Saints opened the following year. Our daughter Church, Saint Raphael’s in Fern Tree, survivor of two catastrophic bushfires, is situated at the foot of the beautiful Mount Wellington.
