Evening Services at All Saints

These services are offered throughout the year, except:

  • in December, when alternative Advent services are conducted, and
  • in January, when there are no evening services.

Always check the weekly pew sheet, porch notice board or the website for updates or changes

Service of Light – 1st Sunday of the month at 5.00pm

Centered around the image of Christ as Light of the World, this deeply spiritual service incorporates seasonal prayer and hymns, intercessions and prayers of thanksgiving. There is no sermon.

Choral Evensong – 2nd Sunday of the month at 5.00pm

One of the glories of Anglican worship, Choral Evensong is sung by the Choir of All Saints. Evensong is a ‘Book of Common Prayer’ service in traditional language, and incorporates music by composers such as Vaughan-Williams, Elgar, Byrd, Palestrina, Purcell, Tallis and many more. There are also communal hymns, readings from scripture, and prayer. There is no sermon. Our Choral Evensong concludes with the service of Benediction, a short meditation upon the Blessed Sacrament.

Taize Prayer – 3rd Sunday of the month at 5.00pm

Taizé is a monastic community located in Taizé, France. There is an ecumenical emphasis at Taizé, and their worship is being incorporated in a wide variety of churches, Protestant and Catholic, worldwide. Taizé worship service involves sung and chanted prayer, meditation, a period of silence and readings. There is no sermon.

Fourth Sunday of the month – there is no evening service.

Compline – Fifth Sunday of the month at 7.00pm

Compline, or Prayer at the End of the Day, is the final prayer liturgy (or office) of the day in the Christian tradition of canonical hours, which are prayed at fixed times. The service is almost entirely sung; at All Saints by our special Compline Choir. Compline is a contemplative office that emphasizes spiritual peace, which is what you pray you will find if you join us for this service. Note the later starting time of 7.00pm.
